Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that eight cities across the country will host matches during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in 2027. Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London and Paarl have been finalised as venues.
South Africa will stage 44 out of 54 matches. The other 10 will take place in Zimbabwe and Namibia. The World Cup is planned for October-November 2027, the first men’s edition in Africa since 2003.
The last men’s ICC event staged in South Africa was the Champions Trophy in 2009. South Africa had also hosted the 2003 ODI World Cup and the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. Alongside men’s cricket, the country has experience with hosting major women’s events as well, including the 2005 Women’s ODI World Cup and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.

South Africa Finalises Eight Venues for 44 ODI World Cup 2027 Matches
The eight South African cities named by CSA will carry the bulk of the matches. Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban are the most famous venues in South Africa and are expected to feature prominently. Pretoria, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London and Paarl complete the list. Together, these grounds will stage 44 games of the tournament.
CSA has also announced a Local Organising Committee with former finance minister Trevor Manuel appointed as chair. The committee will be responsible for coordinating operations across venues and ensuring readiness for the event.
"CSA’s vision is to stage a global, inspiring event which will reflect the face of South Africa—diverse, inclusive, and united," CSA chairperson Pearl Maphoshe said as quoted.
Zimbabwe and Namibia to Host 10 Matches
The remaining 10 matches of the tournament will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia, giving both countries a major platform in world cricket. It will be the first time Namibia host games in a men’s ODI World Cup. Zimbabwe will return as a World Cup host after being part of the 2003 edition.
For Zimbabwe and Namibia, the opportunity is also a boost for local cricket as it allows them to showcase facilities and bring World Cup matches to their home supporters.
In India, the spotlight is also on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. A lot of conflicting reports are coming on their ODI future.
